5 ways to get insane wedding photos in Yorkshire!

Picking a great photographer is a great place to start, so make sure you love their style and previous images before choosing them. As a photographer it's my job to help get you the pictures you want. Here are a few things that will help you get prepared and get the most out of your shoot.
1. Relax and Enjoy Yourself

Your wedding day comes with a mixture of emotions from excitement, to nervousness to maybe feeling a little awkward about all eyes being on you - totally understandable! The key thing to help you get insane wedding photos is, Take a breath….. and relax.  How you feel in the moment will come across in your photos. On your wedding day you are going to be looking your most fabulous and be with your favorite people, which will make you feel amazing, let that confidence flow so you can relax and enjoy yourself. When you are relaxed and enjoying yourself your most natural self comes out, this will help your photographer capture you and all your wonderful personalities

2.  Book a Pre Wedding Shoot

My wife was the first to admit that she found it super awkward in front of a camera and this was a real concern for her ahead of our wedding day. So we decided to have a pre wedding shoot! This was an absolute game changer!  I would highly recommend a pre wedding shoot as it gives you the opportunity to get comfortable with your partner and your photographer in front of the camera..

Even if this is a unique experience for you, it’s not for your photographer. They will have done this so many times before so there is no need to feel embarrassed or awkward, so allow them to support and guide you. So, if you are feeling a little awkward, embrace it, talk to your partner about it (let your photographer know) have a joke and a laugh about it and support each other. Soon you will feel so much more comfortable and you might find that you are actually enjoying yourself. A pre wedding shoot allows you the space to figure some of those emotions out ahead of your big day and hopefully help you feel more comfortable to get those amazing photos of your wedding.

3. Location and time of day

There are so many elements to fit into your wedding day from the ceremony, to the reception, the cake cutting and the first dance. Creating some space to capture some insane photos of you and your family is super important. You will have chosen a location that you love, so you want to maximise that while you are looking as stunning as you will be. It helps to plan out where you want to take your photos and at what time in the day. Speak to your photographer about how long they will need to capture the shots you want, they will be able to advise you and give you some guidance about when and how you can go about it.

It can be a balancing act taking some time out from your guests to get some beautiful portraits of the two of you, but I encourage you to  prioritize this time together, it is important, not only to get some amazing photos but this will most likely be the first time you’ve been alone together in the day. You may want to take a moment as the sun is setting and step away and capture something insane in that beautiful light.

Speak to your photographer and work out where and when works best for you, to get the insane photos you deserve.

4. Plan ahead

Often a major area of stress for any bride (and photographer) can be the family photos.

It can be difficult getting the right people in the right place at the right time. Auntie Sally just popped to the toilet or cousin Harry wanted to grab a pint. Who wants that stress on their wedding day?! Making a plan ahead of time to eliminate as much of that as possible, is a winner. Let your family know when family shots will be happening, it is helpful to have a meeting point and a list of which combinations of family you need to have together, I recommend no more than 10 combinations.

It’s also super helpful to allocate a bridesmaid and a groomsman to make sure the right people are together when called upon. Being planned and prepared by giving them the list ahead of time will make this whole process more efficient and enjoyable.

5. Flowers & Decor

You will already have an idea of what you want your wedding to look and feel like, flowers and decor are a key part ensuring you get insane wedding photos! When picking your flowers and decor you want them to fit with your location and the occasion, you want what’s around you to enhance and complement your photos and not detract from them, so picking appropriate flowers and decor is essential to the composition of your photos.

What is the style you are going for and does what you are putting together work for that? You wouldn’t try to recreate a ball room in a barn.  Flowers, in particular, are a great addition to your portraits, the moment you walk down the aisle looking amazing and holding a stunning bouquet will remain in people's memory.  You want your flowers to make a statement and not be lost against the background of your shoot.

I always think ‘go big or go home’

The common misconception around flowers can be that they are ‘so expensive’ I have some amazing options around this that I hope you will find helpful. I work with some incredible florists that aren't insanely expensive but they will help make your photos come alive!

If you are on a budget I wouldn’t suggest to not cutback on your bouquet - a little wedding hack that is super helpful is to go to your local supermarket florist (I have personally used morrisons florist and they are insane) they provide a service that enables you to create, select, and wrap an amazing  bouquet for a fraction of the price!

So I encourage you, don’t second guess yourself when it comes to your flowers as they will make the difference between an average photo and insane photo.  I hope you have found this helpful! I would love to hear from you, If you are looking for a wedding photographer I would love to chat to you.

Stress free, Natural & Relaxed PHOTOGRAPHY that make you look awesome!
